Healthy Howard Selected for Whole Foods Columbia’s ‘Nickels for Nonprofits’

Residents urged to create a healthy community while making a healthy planet

Columbia, MD – Healthy Howard, Inc. has been selected as a recipient of Whole Foods Market Columbia’s Nickels for Nonprofits program. Whole Foods Market Columbia is located by The Mall in Columbia at 10275 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, MD 21044. For each reusable bag shoppers fill at Whole Foods Market Columbia between now and April 13, they will receive a wooden nickel to “donate” to Healthy Howard.

Nickels for Nonprofits contributions will ensure Healthy Howard has ongoing resources to support its innovative Healthy Eating Active Living Zone (HEAL Zone) in the North Laurel, Savage, Jessup communities.

“Healthy Howard is excited to partner with Whole Foods Market Columbia,” said Christine Hall, executive director of Healthy Howard. “While a nickel might not seem like much to many shoppers, it will help make a difference in bringing healthy food options to residents in need.”

“As a store we donate 5% of our profits to local charities. Nickels for Nonprofits is unique in that it gives customers the power to choose where those donation dollars go, while at the same raising awareness for the participating charities,” said Carrie Groman, Community Relations Liaison for Whole Foods Market Columbia. “Coordinating programs like this is special to me because I grew up in this community and love seeing these organizations thrive.”

Whole Foods Market Columbia shoppers’ contributions will help bring fresh fruits and vegetables and family fun physical activity to the HEAL Zone.
